We've Gone Global!

The Back to Work Blind site has added Google Translator to allow you to translate each page into a selected language. Once you change the language for one page, all pages will automatically be translated as you open them. Depending on the page, this may take a few seconds.

To translate to a different language, follow these steps:

  1. While on any web page, press Tab repeatedly until JAWS announces the Select Language link.
  2. Press Shift plus Enter. JAWS begins announcing the languages available. Press Control to stop JAWS speaking.
  3. Press Tab repeatedly until JAWS announces the language you need, and then press Shift plus Enter to select the language and begin translation.
Once you activate the translation feature, a new Google Translate menu bar is displayed at the top of each web page. You can tab through these items or press Caps Lock plus: F7, to open the Links List dialog. The following items appear on the Google Translate menu bar:

  • Google Translate link: Press Enter to open the Google Translate web page in a new window.
  • Language link: This link displays the currently selected language. Press Shift plus Enter to select a different language. Use the same steps you originally used to select a language.
  • Show Original button: Press Enter to return the page to English. This button toggles to Translate.
  • Translate button: Press Enter to translate the page back into the selected language.
  • Option button: Press Enter to open a list of two links. Press the Up and Down Arrows to select either to turn off translation for this site or to learn more. Press Shift plus Enter to activate a link. If you select to turn off translation, the Translation menu bar closes.
  • Close Link Graphic: Press Shift plus Enter to close the Translate menu bar.
Note that if you close the Tranlsate menu bar, the Select Language link you originally used to translate the page will still remain on the page if you need to change languages again.
